Flock & Chatter
Having been involved in various areas of research, RoCoCo is interested in the way information is graphically presented. Lines, charts, and other symbols used in the summation of data and how resulting information is expressed through shapes, patterns, and colors is the focus of the series Flock & Chatter. RoCoCo based its exploration of graphics and data from information derived from their own lives; property tax valuations, property values impacted by gentrification, and electrocardiograms were among the various summations of data enveloped in the work. RoCoCo also incorporated nature’s indicators that express informational/environmental changes, such as birds. The idiom about a canary in a coal mine indicating worsening or dangerous situations, or the marking of seasonal change when birds fly south for the winter also convey how observational data may be visually represented as indicators of change. This series combines the language of graphic information with symbolic representation realized through materials such as ink, paint, paper, and textiles to suggest our profound need for making sense of our own vulnerabilities.
